...a light on my path.

Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”

We live in a society where we want to know everything in detail and instantly. For example, if we're going on a road trip, we open Waze to find out how many kilometers (or miles) it is, how long it will take to get there, and what the traffic will be like along the way. We can even check the weather forecast using other apps, and have many tools that allow us to anticipate situations we might face.

That's why when we face uncertain scenarios or difficult decisions with outcomes we can’t predict, we can be overcome by fear, uncertainty, and even frustration... Until we realize and accept that God doesn't show us the entire path with all its details. Instead, He reveals it little by little, moment by moment, step by step.

Turning to Psalm 119:105, Scripture tells us that His word is a lamp to our feet and a light for our path. How does a lamp shine? With immediate but short-lived illumination. This light God offers doesn’t reveal the full journey; it is a guide that prevents us from falling into ravines or pitfalls, showing us our God-given route with only one step at a time.

With this in mind, it makes perfect sense that God doesn't illuminate the entire path for us from the beginning! He shows us only a portion of the journey so that along the way we develop a real dependence and day-by-day trust in what He has prepared.

Indeed, the light we find in His promises allows us to take precisely the next step forward, through faith placed in Him. This is a process that unfolds step by step, one day at a time, walking with the absolute belief that His plans are perfect and that His guidance will never fail us.

Salmo 119:105, “Tu palabra es una lámpara a mis pies; es una luz en mi sendero.”

Si vemos a nuestro alrededor hoy en día, vivimos en una sociedad donde queremos conocer todo a detalle y de forma inmediata. Por ejemplo, si uno sale de viaje en carro, activa Waze para saber cuántos kilómetros son, en cuánto tiempo llegará y cómo va a estar el tráfico. Incluso, podemos revisar mediante otras aplicaciones cómo estará el tiempo meteorológico, entre muchas cosas más que nos permiten anticipar situaciones.

Por eso, cuando necesitamos enfrentar escenarios inciertos o decisiones difíciles de las cuales no sabemos el resultado, nos invade el miedo, la incertidumbre e incluso la frustración al notar que Dios no nos muestra el camino completo con todos sus detalles si no que lo hace poco a poco paso a paso.

Yéndonos al Salmo 119:105, la Escritura nos habla de que su palabra es lámpara a nuestros pies y una luz en nuestro camino. Esto indica una iluminación inmediata pero de corto alcance; es decir, una guía que evita que caigamos en barrancos o huecos, mostrándonos una ruta paso a paso conforme a lo que Dios quiere para nosotros.

Con esto, tiene todo el sentido que Dios no nos ilumine el trayecto entero desde el principio. Él nos muestra solo una parte del recorrido para que, durante la marcha, desarrollemos una dependencia real y confiemos día a día en lo que Él tiene preparado. Precisamente, la luz que encontramos en sus promesas nos permite dar justamente el siguiente paso hacia adelante, mediante la fe puesta en Él. Esto es un proceso que se vive paso a paso, un día a la vez, caminando con la absoluta certeza de que sus planes son perfectos y que su guía nunca nos faltará.

  • Señor, gracias por ser esa lámpara que ilumina mi camino a diario; te pido a que me ayudes a soltar toda incertidumbre del futuro, a confiar en tus planes perfectos y a caminar con fe, un paso a la vez. Amén
